We breathe the same air. We eat, we fear, we tremble – we love. I truly believe, that in the face of real crisis, love is the only thing that will get us through.
Viruses do not have a political standpoint. They don’t go on TV and spout hate and division and fear for ratings and ad revenue. They don’t honor imaginary borders or rules or laws. They don’t care what you call them. They just go about their business of infecting and spreading and spreading and infecting. That’s what they do and they are very good at it. And sometimes, horrifyingly, they are very very good at it…
Look at this animation. Study it and watch it over and over and over and you tell me if borders matter in the face of those horrible marching red dots spreading and growing and multiplying… It’s a gut wrenching truth for everyone on this small blue planet – it will never be the same and we will never be the same.
But I don’t want that to change my nature. I don’t want the fear of the unknown and what the horrors that I keep imagining in my frightened and spinning brain – all these thing that make me fearful and afraid, but I don’t like being afraid. I really don’t. (Click here to read a little about stress response: https://www.health.harvard.edu/staying-healthy/understanding-the-stress-response )
Make room in your heart for your neighbors. Make room in your life for strangers.
Create hope. Create love. Create a way forward, free from fear.
We are all in the together and in the end, not one single one of us is getting out alive, so be kind, lend a hand and most importantly be present in your life (and turn off that damned TV!)
