I am making today the official opening day for Flora’s Bake Shop. So far, without advertising or doing anything except making cookies and working on the blog, I've gotten 7 orders by word of mouth, so I am cautiously optimistic that this is really going to work!
At the bake shop I continued working on second layer of royal icing / details for Cinco de Mayo cookies and First Communion dresses and crosses.
I also started the spring cookie basket for Danette's scone party tomorrow. They came out so cute!
100% ALL NATURAL SANDING SUGAR
I have been wanting to create some sanding sugar that’s completely natural. Today I was working on blueberry flavored / colored sugar. First batch came out very nicely purple/blue. I've got it bagged – I want to see how long the bright color lasts (or will it start to oxidize?). It’s an interesting problem – how do you color sanding sugar and icing naturally without flavoring it too much or watering it down too much with what’s being used to color it…
I've been getting TONS of calls from sales people trying to sell me their version of google key words – holy crap it’s starting to get annoying. I keep jumping up and running to grab the phone (because it’s NEVER where I am sitting… EVER!) and it’s some human trying to get me to part with a “Only” $300 a month to get better search results. Ha to that I say!
